On 22 October the merger was announced between ARC Global — the arm with which Sheba Medical Center turns what it learns treating patients into products other health systems can use — and Redesign Health, a New York company that builds healthcare businesses. Fierce Healthcare put the deal at around $2 billion.
The announcement coincided with the ARC Summit in Tel Aviv on 21 and 22 October, where ARC Global was presented and where Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, and Sheba’s director general, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, shared the stage.
The combined company has also agreed to acquire AVIA Health, a network working with more than a hundred health systems in the United States.
What is merging is not a hospital. It is the part that leaves the hospital: what a department learns by treating people, turned into something transferable. Sheba has been doing that from the inside for years, while the hospital keeps running.
That is the half the world sees. The other half is the ordinary one — beds, shifts and rehabilitation. It makes no headlines, and it is the one that runs short first.
